The ceramics students have started working on a new project. Each student is creating their own creative wind chime using clay and string. I have been amazed at the creative ideas that have already taken shape!
6th Art Foundations
The 6th graders finished their amazing Selfie Color Collage projects! I am so happy with the effort so many students put into this challenging project. It was the first time many of them had ever tried collage and they turned out great. The first step for this project is to create a contour self portrait. I printed off a photo of each student and they carefully traced themselves on a sheet of overhead transparency. They then created a fun collage to put behind it and the two parts were stapled together to create a neat 3/D effect! Make sure to click the images to view the entire portrait!
The 7th grade class finished up a challenging project: Poetic Portraits. To create these imaginative portraits, each student had a neighbor sketch their portrait using blind contour. Blind contour refers to a drawing technique where the artist ONLY looks at the subject they are drawing, never looking at the paper. The results are sometimes crazy and hilarious, sometimes delicate and detailed.
The younger grades had an awesome time learning about watercolor techniques! We tried a lot of interesting methods including wax resists, paper salting, color blending and washes. The students were so excited to try out these new paint methods, they will be using the skills to create amazing projects next week!
