This week we talked about texture as an element in photos. The students got to go outside the school to take some shots of the surrounding materials and objects, they were encouraged to get in close to their subjects to capture detail. It was so fun to see the variety of textures the students were able to find during a relatively short time. Make sure to click through the gallery below to see these gorgeous images full size!
This week the 6th graders learned about optical illusions. We looked at numerous examples ranging from 3D chalk art on streets to music videos. The students then created their own 3D hands using cross contour lines and explored the mysteries behind the never ending triangle. You can learn how to make your own optical illusion triangle in the video below! We also did a really fun critique for their Selfie Collor Collage project that involved our own twitter hashtags and usernames.
The 7th graders are working on a paper mache mask project. This week they built the form and strengthened it using layers of paper and modge podge. Everything was topped of with a layer of gesso to make them easy to paint.
Next week they will start painting them using the theme "Inner me vs. Outer me". It is going to be a lot of fun to see what they come up with as far as visuals go.
The younger grades are all working on some AMAZING self portraits! I cant WAIT to post photos of these beautiful artworks. The 5th graders are concentrating on doing shaded pencil portraits while the 3/4 grades are doing line drawings and painting them with tissue paper! Here are a few previews of their portraits, they are doing amazing!!!
