7th Foundations We started the project by learning all about negative and positive space, even making a small "notan" project to demonstrate understanding. A notan is a simple black and white cut out project that involves symmetry and negative/positive space. We then read "The Giving Tree" and talked about memories we have that involve trees. The next day we read tree legends from around the world and talked about symbolism. The class was split up into 4 groups and chose a word to base their design around. We had wisdom, transformation, growth and power as our chosen themes. They then collaboratively designed the tree and drew it on a huge piece of butcher paper. After the drawing was done, they had to carefully cut out the design, they turned out beautifully! |
The ceramics class is continuing work on their final project. We did get their triptych tiles fired finally! There were some beautiful tiles that came out of the project, all themed around past-present-future. There were also two whistles that finally got turned in. These ones were definitely worth the wait!
This class finished up a funky tessellation project. We looked at the work of M.C. Escher and learned how to make our very own tessellations. My favorite part of this project was seeing what the kids turned those crazy shapes into!
The 6th graders are now working on Amphora vases made from paper mache. They are currently studying Greek culture in their history classes so I thought it would tie in nicely.

The third grade art classes had fun making their own tin foil reliefs this week. They carefully used cardboard and string to make a fun design, covered it in foil and added color!!

The 4th grade classes finished up their Mona Lisa parodies this week while the 5th graders got their own tessellation adventure rolling.
