We went over classroom expectations and procedures, as well as had a class discussion about why art is important. The students worked together to fill out board with their own ideas, at the end of the day the board was covered with reasons why art is important to the students at Thomas Edison.
6th-7th Art Foundations
This week the foundations courses started creating their own hand-bound sketchbooks. We printed our own patterned paper using potato stamps and stretched them over the covers. We then created signatures and folios for the pages, the students got to choose their own colors for the spine resulting in fun patterns.
The ceramics class created their own custom stamps using additive and subtractive techniques. These stamps can be used all semester long to add textures to their work. The class also created their own stamped paper for the class workbooks.
Grades 3-5 decorated their own sketchbook covers and will be completing the simple saddle stitch binding next week.
